From swimming to running to triathlon

I started swimming at the age of 6 as a member of my local club, TSG Weinheim. At 11, I began training at the Olympic training centre in Heidelberg. The workload got bigger every year until a normal training week would involve 7-8 sessions in the water (including early morning sessions before school).

The biggest achievements of my swimming career were two years with the German Swimming Federation's national C squad, taking part in the European Junior Swimming Championships in Helsinki in 2010, and several national junior championship titles.

I'd never really had anything to do with triathlon at that point – nothing at all, in fact ;-).

    My story

After gaining my Abitur school-leaving qualification, I started a business studies course in Mannheim and hung up my competition trunks. I stayed fit with a combination of weight training and running. So it was by sheer coincidence that I got talking to Celia Kuch, a Weinheim club triathlete, who asked me if I would be interested in trying a triathlon. It didn't take me long to decide it would be pretty cool to try something new that would put my years of swim training to good use.

My first triathlon was in Mussbach in 2012 – as you might expect, I dived straight in with an Olympic distance ;-) – and I was hooked. I wanted to do it again! In 2013, I joined forces with trainer Christian Weimer, who supported me for four years. I also quit my business studies course and started a nutritional sciences degree in Giessen.

From 2014 to 2016 I was a member of the ERDINGER Alkoholfrei talent development programme. After cutting short the 2014 season due to injury, I got back to full training in 2015 and 2016 with some great results, including a middle distance silver at the 2016 European Championships, two overall wins at the BASF Triathlon Cup Rhein Neckar, and a fifth spot in the middle distance at the German Championships.

In January 2017, I joined the ERDINGER Alkoholfrei professional team. The support provided by ERDINGER and their premium partners CUBE, Skinfit and Sailfish is fantastic and will help to get my first season as a pro off to a great start. I'm excited about the new challenge and the shared experiences!
